A certain HOPE in the Street vibe (10 photos)

Hundreds pour at the start of 2017 edition

Curbside seating, great food, good music, excellent company.

HOPE in the Street was shaping up to pack Cork Street early Friday evening, as hundreds poured into the street festival. The another event raises money for HOPE House programs that help those in need in our community.

HOPE in the Street is a chance for the social agency to connect with the broader community in a relaxed atmosphere, and to attract potential volunteers and donors, said HOPE House director Jaya James,

"It's about just being together," she said.

Visitors to the event paid $2 at gates at either end of the block. There was a stage at the midpoint for local bands to cut loose from 4:15 p.m. to the 11 p.m. closing time.

The Vinyl Sons, The Woolwich Project, The Lifers and Joni Nehrita Band were among them. And The Making-Box improvisational theatre company, a new tenant on the block, hosted an improv event.

Kristen Tilley, HOPE in the Street coordinator, called the scene “unreal.”

“It’s like having all my favourite people in the world in one place,” she said. “We have a sign up that says ‘No Bad Vibes,’ and there is just such a great vibe here."

She expected the event to get busier as the night progressed. The skies opened briefly at around 7 p.m., with cold rain falling. Skies remained unpredictable after that, and more rain was falling at around 8 p.m.

Lakeside HOPE House is located at 10 Cork Street.
