Welcome to DockDogs, where dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds compete to see which dog can jump the highest and furthest.
Pretty simple concept:You throw the dogs toy into a long above ground pool set up by organizers. Using a long platform, you give your dog a run up before it launches itself into the pool to retrieve its toy. Longest jump wins.
A second contest sees the dogs jump to retrieve their toy suspended above the pool. Highest jump wins.
A third is a timed event, seeing how long it takes to retrieve their toy and return it to the owner.
DockDogs drew a large crowd to Ren’s Pet Depot in Aberfoyle on Saturday.
For the regulars it was easy, just a matter of holding their dogs back until the right time on occasion.
For the newbies, not so much.
Several newcomers wanted their toys, but didn’t want to jump off the dock. Handlers were given a time limit to try and encourage their dogs to jump before they had to vacate the platform.
DockDogs is a company that operates across North America and a couple of countries outside North America, with an arm in Canada. Ontario DockDogs is based in Richmond Hill.
It has a competitive element, with entry fees, prize money and regional championships.
