Due to popular demand, the city is changing up the way it notifies residents about significant weather events and snow plow activity.

The city said those alerts, initially sent out through its email subscription service, are moving over to the Voyent Alert! system, or Alert Guelph as it is commonly known.

This is because the city said under the email service, it reached capacity for subscribers, forcing them to pivot.

"The (Alert Guelph) system will now alert subscribers about local emergencies, residential plow outs and significant weather events," the city said in a news release. "The severity of the alert will vary depending on the circumstance."

You can sign up for the alerts online, and choose to get notifications by the app, text, email or voicemail.

Current Alert Guelph subscribers don't have to do anything, and will automatically be included in the plow activity and weather alerts.

Those subscribed to the existing email service will need to sign up to the Alert Guelph system in order to continue getting alerts.
