Wellington Catholic District School Board has tallied the total funds raised at the 15th annual Bishop’s Dinner for Community Needs. Five local organizations will be the beneficiaries of $60,000 to be shared across the community, just in time for Christmas.

They include; Children’s Foundation of Guelph Wellington, Ignatius Jesuit Centre Sacred Ground Campaign, Kids Ability Centre for Child Development, The Guelph Lake Interpretive Centre, and the Welcome In Drop in Centre. The evening was marked by fun with a surprise student flash mob dance routine, musical entertainment, a silent auction, raffle and dinner.

Student trustees also addressed the 500 attendees and shared their personal experience of what their Catholic education means to them. Bishop Douglas Crosby, Bishop of the Hamilton Diocese, congratulated the community on their efforts and for their generosity noting that this has a profound effect on the landscape of our community and that a “community needs a heart in order for it to become a true home.”

“We are delighted with the success of our event and pleased to be able to give, especially during the Christmas season,” said Tamara Nugent, director of education. “The overwhelming support of our sponsors and attendees never ceases to amaze me. It is a salient reminder of how collectively we tend to the wholeness of our community.”

“This is a great finish to the year,” said Chair Marino Gazzola. “We’re so appreciative of all those who leant their support and that together we’re able to make a difference. It’s heart-warming.”
