A free, virtual forum will put mental health concerns in the spotlight this week.

The 23rd annual Mayor’s Event for Mental Health, set for Oct. 13, will feature four guest speakers to discuss ways to improve mental health and wellness through art, music, gardening and laughter yoga, which is a combination of laughter with yoga breathing techniques.

Joining Mayor Cam Guthrie from 10 to 11 a.m. that day will be music therapist, psychotherapist and educator Priya Shah; Tamaura Proctor, a registered horticultural therapist; certified life and leadership coach Courtney McLeod; and Marcey Gray, program coordinator for Spark of Brilliance, a program which promotes healing and wellbeing through the arts.

The Mayor’s Event for Mental Health is a collaboration between the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington, Compass Community Services, Homewood Health Centre, Spark of Brilliance and the City of Guelph. It was founded in 2000 by then-mayor Joe Young.

To register for the Oct. 13 Zoom presentation, register here. It will also be available to watch via Facebook.
