A new celebration is coming for birds in Guelph.

Bird Safe Guelph is organizing a family-friendly event called Guelph Bird Day, which aims to provide residents an opportunity to learn more about birds. The event is also part of the City of Guelph initiative to become a certified Bird Friendly City.

On Saturday, May 14, residents can stop by the University of Guelph Arboretum, Conifer Site between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for guided bird walks, family-friendly activities, and free swag.

Bird Safe Guelph mentions those who are unable to attend the event can celebrate Guelph Bird Day by going birding within their neighbourhood or in a new neighbourhood. Residents can also play Bird Day Bingo and can print off bingo sheets, along with colouring and other activity pages, here.

Guelph Bird Day is taking place the same day as World Migratory Bird Day. This year, World Migratory Bird Day is focusing on light pollution, as a majority of birds migrate at night. Artificial light in urban areas can cause birds to become disoriented and make them likely to crash into buildings.
