The Bookshelf will soon be fully accessible after being awarded $100,000 by the federal government to help build an elevator.

The funds will help make the Bookshelf fully accessible, something they have wanted to do for some time.

“Last March, we applied for a Federal Enabling Accessibility Grant valued at $100,000. We are very happy to announce that we received the grant,” said owner Ben Minett.

“It has always been a goal of The Bookshelf to be fully accessible to everyone. This grant has given us the opportunity to allow access to our licensed cinema and ebar and green room space to all.”

The Bookshelf has also been doing its own fundraising through its Friends of the Bookshelf campaign to raise $100,000 of its own and recently received a $50,000 donation for the elevator project from Stu and Kim Lang.

“When we complete our renovation, a cultural melding will take place. We will be moving our cinema concessions to the dining area of the ebar, thus creating a cinema lounge that will serve great food for movie goers and bar patrons alike,” Minett said.

Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield was on hand to make the announcement at a Friday event, as was MPP Mike Schreiner.
