Buyers pull all-nighter to get their pick of latest Metalworks condos

Phase 3 of the five-phase development on Arthur Street went on sale Saturday

This we know: Erin Jonasson has a great dad and Blair Everett has a great real estate agent.

Jonasson’s dad camped out with her overnight Friday and Everett’s real estate agent held his place in line overnight as people went the extra mile to make sure they got first dibs on condominiums in the latest phase of The Metalworks, the large condo development just east of downtown that was released for sale at noon on Saturday.

It is the third phase of the Fusion Homes development on Arthur Street. Phase 1 is already being lived in and Phase 2 is nearing completion.

Phase 3 is called The Copper Club at The Metalworks. Units range in price from a little over $300,000 for a 633 square-foot one-bedroom unit to $1.2 million for the top floor penthouse.

“It will give me the pick of the unit that I wanted,” said Jonasson, who was first in line after splitting and sharing the overnight duties with her father.

She already has a unit in Phase 1 and her parents have bought one in Phase II.

Asked which unit she has her eye on, she wouldn’t say.

“I’m not going to tell you what it is. A girl’s got to have some secrets,” Jonasson said with a laugh.

It was a little chilly for those who chose to camp out. Jonasson was the first to arrive Friday afternoon.

As others trickled in, a gentleman’s agreement was struck to confirm who had which place in line, then they sat in their cars most of the night.

Colin Miller was one of them. He lives in Acton, but he and his wife decided to downsize.

“I camped out for the extra parking spot,” Miller said, explaining that there are only so many second parking spots available and he wanted to make sure he got one.

“And my wife got rid of me for the night,” he joked.

Phase 3 (there will eventually be five buildings) consists of 121 residential units and condo amenities that include a Library, a hidden speakeasy, and an outdoor games deck in the courtyard.

Jonasson said Fusion has been “great” to deal with at her other condo.

“There have been a few hiccups, but they’re very attentive and very quick to respond to any concerns,” she said.

Work is also proceeding on restoring the building on the 8-acre site that will eventually be home to a craft distillery and restaurant.
