Local gatherings were met with charges by bylaw officers over the weekend.

On Monday, city spokesperson Stacey Hare reported bylaw officers issued two charges for local gatherings. Each of these charges included a set fine of $750.

She said no charges were issued for any businesses on Saturday or Sunday.

Currently, there are no reports of charges from Guelph Campus Police, but an updated summary of COVID-19 complaints and charges will be posted on the city’s website Tuesday.

Between March 25 to April 9, Guelph police and bylaw officers received 25 calls about social gatherings and eight calls about businesses violating COVID-19 guidelines.

During that time, the city reports one $750 fine was issued for a gathering and another $750 fine was issued for a business. No charges were handed out by campus police.
