NEWS RELEASE
GRAND RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY
*************************
The Flood Watch message issued by the Grand River Conservation Authority on April 12 has been downgraded to a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety.

Rivers and streams throughout the Grand River watershed are expected to rise in response to warm temperatures in the forecast over the next five days. These temperatures are expected to melt most, if not all, of the snowpack formed over the past week.

The runoff from this snowmelt is not expected to cause flooding however recreational river users such as anglers, canoeists and kayakers should be aware of the elevated flows across the watershed. Flows will be much higher than normal for this time of year.

Reservoir Storage

The Grand River Conservation Authority’s major reservoirs remain at or below their normal holding levels for this time of year. Available storage capacity in these reservoirs will be used to manage runoff and reduce downstream flows.

Stay Safe

Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are slippery and, when combined with fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from watercourses.

GRCA staff will continue to monitor conditions and will update this message as necessary. This message will remain in effect until Thursday, April 26th.
