The Guelph-Wellington Local Immigration Partnership (GWLIP) is hosting a breakfast on Wednesday, Mar. 29 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. to announce the winners of the first-ever Global Advantage Business Awards.

The awards celebrate businesses and individuals that demonstrate leadership in immigrant employment and entrepreneurship in Guelph and Wellington.

Four awards will be given out in the following two categories:

  • Immigrant Inclusion in the Workplace Award—honouring businesses that hire immigrants and that recognize diversity and international skills and experience as a benefit to their business, and have implemented practices to support cultural and religious diversity in the workplace.
  • Immigrant Entrepreneur Success Award—honouring immigrants who have arrived in Canada since 2000 and who are driving local innovation and economic growth by launching successful businesses.

“These awards celebrate the incredible value that immigrants bring to the Guelph and Wellington  business community through their skills, experience, and drive to establish themselves in their new home,”  says Ella Henderson, project specialist with the GWLIP. “We were blown away by the quality of the nominations received and we are thrilled to showcase all the exciting work being done by local business people.”

Fourteen nominees will be recognized at the breakfast being held at the Italian Canadian Club. Nominee profiles can be found at guelphwellingtonlip.ca.

In addition to the awards presentation, there will be speeches from Jim Estill, a local business leader and Syrian refugee settlement champion, and Guelph’s Member of Parliament Lloyd Longfield. A video greeting from Minister of Small Business and Tourism Bardish Chagger will be shared with the audience.

Thanks to our sponsors: the County of Wellington, the City of Guelph’s Invest in Guelph initiative, and Wellington-Waterloo Community Futures Development Corporation.
