An assault charge has been laid against the man arrested following a lengthy police standoff on Yarmouth Street Thursday.
Guelph Police said a 32-year-old man is charged with assault and choking. He is scheduled to appear in bail court Friday.
Police said that after responding to a noise complaint they discovered there was a domestic incident that had occurred and a female involved in the incident was no longer there.
"It was learned that the female had received some injuries from being assaulted and when police went back to the residence to arrest the male involved, he brandished a knife and would not come out. The scene was contained and access to the street was closed while police negotiated with the male to surrender himself," said a police press release.
This situation came to a peaceful end at approximately 12:20 p.m. when the man came out of his unit and surrendered himself to police.
The female victim received medical attention for her injuries and was later released from hospital.
