Guelph Police Services Board Chair Don Drone is pleased to announce that Chief Cobey was among 40 recipients who received the Order of Merit yesterday from Governor General, Julie Payette in Ottawa.

Chief Cobey was nominated by his previous employer, the RCMP where he was a member for 25 years. Chief Cobey held postings in rural communities and remote areas of northern Manitoba. Throughout his career, Chief Cobey rose through the ranks of the RCMP and served as the employee management relations officer in Ontario, as well as being an inspector and the acting superintendent of the Criminal Intelligence Program. He became the Chief of Guelph Police Service in March of this year in a city he has called home for almost 20 years.

Chair Drone states “We are proud of Chief Cobey’s past accomplishments and know these experiences will strengthen his ability to lead our service moving forward.”

The Order of Merit of the Police Forces was created in 2000 to recognize outstanding merit and exceptional service by members and employees of the Canadian police forces, whose contributions extend beyond protection of the community.
