With summer fast approaching, the Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington kicked off their Kids to Camp Campaign on May 13 with the goal of raising at least $50,000 to send hundreds of local kids to camp.

Camp provides children with opportunities to be physically active, develop new skills, gain confidence, and make lasting friendships in a safe and supportive environment. Unfortunately, many families cannot afford to send their children to camp. In response, the Children's Foundation is issuing an urgent call for support to ensure every child has the chance to experience the many benefits of camp.

“We are reaching out to ask for your help in making a difference in the lives of local kids by giving them the opportunity to go to summer camp,” says Karyn Kirkwood, Executive Director at the Children’s Foundation. “For many children living in poverty, going to summer camp is as close to a holiday as they get to experience. It provides a vital break from their everyday challenges, allowing them to disconnect from screens, reconnect to nature, build lasting friendships, and develop important life skills. Every Kids to Camp donation counts, and right now, donations will be doubled thanks to our generous matching donor, Skyline Group of Companies. This support ensures that more children can enjoy the enriching experiences and lifelong benefits that camp provides.”

In today’s economy, parents are facing tough choices, and extracurricular activities like sports, the arts, and summer camp are often the first to go. Camp greatly enhances children's social skills, self-confidence, self-reliance, and environmental awareness. Research shows these benefits extend beyond camp, positively impacting home and school life.

“Skyline is proud to partner with the Children’s Foundation on the Kids to Camp campaign and support the well-being of young people in our community,” says R. Jason Ashdown, Co-Founder & Chief Sustainability Officer, Skyline Group of Companies. “Youth are Canada’s future, and by supporting community organizations and programs, we can help create a meaningful, positive impact and ensure that all children have the opportunity to explore, learn, and thrive.”

The Children's Foundation received this note from an enthusiastic camper last year: “I loved playing outside! I could run, climb, and jump, and I played in the water almost every day. I made a lot of new friends and really liked my camp leaders. I got to do fun things all day long!”

You can join the Children's Foundation in giving kids the gift of their Best!Summer!Ever! by making a donation and putting the sunshine in their summer.

Donations can be made online at www.childrensfoundation.org or by calling 519-826-9551.
