With up to 20 cm of snowfall expected Friday evening through the weekend, city officials have declared a “significant weather event” and ordered that parked cars be moved off streets.

“During this event, we will be plowing snow from all city streets, bike lanes and sidewalks,” states a post on the city’s website. “Overnight on-street parking is suspended. Please move parked cars from the streets until the significant weather event is over.”

The declaration is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday. City staff will monitor weather and road conditions and adapt operations accordingly, the post notes.

“Residents should avoid unnecessary travel. If you must travel, drivers are reminded to drive according to weather conditions and to give plows room to maneuver,” it states. “A city-wide plow out will commence (Friday night), and residents are requested to remove vehicles from city streets.”

Plowing efforts will focus first on primary roads, followed by secondary roads and then residential streets. Due to the amount of expected snow, plows may need to make several passes in order to clear roadways, bike lanes and sidewalks.

“ It may take crews 24 hours after the snowfall stops to have all roads cleared and up to three days for sidewalks,” the post notes.

Plow operations can be tracked here.
