NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF GUELPH
*************************
Earlier this month the City of Guelph announced that it has reached a potential solution with the owners of the Dolime Quarry to protect Guelph’s drinking water.

The City held the first Our Community, Our Water open house at City Hall yesterday. The open house was the first in-person opportunity for people to talk to project staff and others about the proposal.

Share your thoughts

The City is now asking the community, including residents from Guelph-Eramosa Township, to provide feedback on the proposed solution. People can provide feedback online at haveyoursay.guelph.ca until Nov. 30.

“We really do want to hear from people—both in the city and the township,” said Jennifer Rose, General Manager of Environmental Services for the City of Guelph. “Council is very interested in what people think will be the benefits and challenges of this proposal should they approve it, so provide your comments online or come see us at a future in-person session.”

The City also has more in-person opportunities for people to learn more and provide feedback lined up throughout November.

Pop-up information sessions

Final open house

Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Holiday Inn Guelph Hotel & Conference Centre, Wellington Room
601 Scottsdale Drive, Guelph, Ontario, N1G 3E7

The proposal at a glance

  • Close the Dolime Quarry and bring the site, currently in Guelph-Eramosa Township, into the City of Guelph’s municipal boundary (quarry owners retain land ownership).
  • Give the City control of the quarry’s water supply and build an on-site water management system.
  • Create a new mixed-use residential neighbourhood with parkland and trails.

Next steps

The City will capture and summarize community feedback in a public report, which will be shared with Council in early 2020.
