It's been two months since the Market Parkade opened and the City of Guelph says it is getting lots of use.

"We're seeing a good trend and the numbers are certainly where we would have expected them," said Terry Gayman  general manager of Engineering and Transportation Services and City Engineer.

"We view it as performing right on target with our expectations."

In terms of daily car counts, in November we saw 2,853 individual uses pass through the gates and as of Tuesday the car count  in December was up to 3,417 individual uses.

The lot, which opened Oct. 22 and has 496 total parking spaces, is performing at roughly the same level as the West Parkade, Gayman said.

"There's certainly variations seasonally, but those numbers line up with some of our other locations. It's similar to the West Parkade as an example, in terms of the numbers we're seeing in December."

The garage has 250 spaces reserved for monthly parking permits and Gayman said that as of now there are 235 monthly permits issued.

The cost of a monthly permit is $158.20, going up to $161.36 on Feb. 1. There is also a one-time permit initial fee of $39.55 and an administration fee of $56.50.

Statistics on how long the average car is in the parkade was not immediately available.
