City set to begin construction of new east end splash pad

Project expected to get underway next week and be completed by next summer, weather permitting

Construction of a new east end splash pad is expected to begin next week.

The water play area at Eastview Community Park is to have a pollinator design, which was chosen to celebrate the existing pollinator park at the former landfill site. Its design will incorporate flower, bee and butterfly shapes, with a hexagonal honeycomb pattern shade structure.

Weather permitting, the splash pad is expected to be ready to use next summer, notes a project update posted to the city’s website.

“The washroom building is currently closed for the season. During construction next year, there may be times when the washroom will not be open for use. All other amenities in the park will remain open,” states the post. “The city appreciates your patience, understanding and cooperation during this important construction project.”

The splash pad will include a water recirculation system and on-demand activation switch intended to increase water efficiency, similar to the one installed at Hanlon Creek Park.

The final vision of the Eastview Community Park master plan is expected to take shape during the next five years.
