City to close south end road for four weeks

Section of Dawn Avenue to be shut down to accommodate residential redevelopment project

The city is set to shut down a south end street for four weeks so underground infrastructure can be replaced to allow for a residential redevelopment project.

Dawn Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Lowes Road West and Clairfield Drive West as of Sept. 5. The planned infrastructure replacement is expected to take about four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

“Local traffic will be permitted along Dawn Avenue, however, there will be no through access at 70 Lowes Road West,” states a post on the city’s website. “The east sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians at 70 Lowes Road during construction.

“Please use the sidewalks at Clairfields Drive West, Gordon Street and Lowes Road West to continue on Dawn Avenue.”

Last year, the city issued the owner a demolition permit for 70 Lowes Rd. W. along with a permit to build a new, two-storey home. A one-storey residence sits there now.

The city’s online permits database also shows there is an active application to create a new lot there. That’s an issue to be decided by the city’s committee of adjustment, though no date is set for it.
