Quench your thirst for knowledge about Guelph’s water with a new event hosted by the City of Guelph for World Waters Day.

Starting last Monday and running until April 22, residents can participate in the Water Hero Wanders scavenger hunt by looking for six signs posted along the Royal Recreation Trail.

Located between Lyon’s Park and Royal City Park, the signs are hidden among benches, gazebos, bridges and existing trail signs.

Each Water Hero Wanders sign contains facts about water and information on a pledge to help protect Guelph’s water. To take the pledge, residents can either go to the City of Guelph website, or scan the QR code located at the bottom of the sign.

Residents who take all six pledges will be entered into a draw to win a prize pack. Winners will be drawn and contacted on May 3.

Steve Yessie, the water conservation program coordinator for environmental services with the City of Guelph, says the event was a result of trying something new during the pandemic.

He explains they would normally host events like Wacky Water Week and H2O GO at this time of year, but they were cancelled.

In order to engage more people, Yessie says they decided to launch the event on World Waters Day and end it on Earth Day.

"I hope it makes people smile," he says about the event, "Looking forward to seeing people's pledges."
