Since launching in September, The Better Food Company created and sold nearly 450 fresh meals using locally-grown produce to help raise funds for HOPE House.

Every month, The Better Food Company accepts pre-orders for their made-in-Guelph meals that are prepared in HOPE House's commercial kitchen using mostly ingredients grown in their market garden at Ignatius Jesuit Centre.

Now, they’re ready to spread some holiday cheer by matching donations for every meal purchased this holiday season.

“This December, every meal purchased will donate one meal directly to our community,” said The Better Food Company’s director Justin Chan.

“We have committed to donating at least 200 (50 per cent) of our December 2021 meals to HOPE House's community food market and other food agencies in Guelph. We're inviting our Guelph community to help us reach our goal by purchasing our December meal on our website. It will be available for pick-up at the end of the month,”

Chan said 100 per cent of the profits from the meal sales support HOPE House’s food work which shares over 10,000 pounds of produce a year through their community food market.

“We've sold out our meals almost every month since launching and we've been getting amazing feedback from our customers. They're understanding the bigger picture and why this work is so important. It's not just about the meal, it's also about creating a community food system that shares food with whoever needs it", said Chan.

He said he wants to use the holiday season to reciprocate the incredible support the team received within the first four months of its launch.

Every month, there is a featured chef who creates the meals. This month it is Kay Miller, who will be preparing squash and peanut stew for the holiday meal inspired by her South African roots.

"Our stew has warm familiar flavours of roasted peanuts infused with exotic smokey coriander seed and HOPE House's delicate squash. This meal is made entirely of local products and a vegan relief to heavy Christmas fare overload", said Miller in a press release.
