WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT
GRAND RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY
**************************
Another low pressure system began sweeping across southern Ontario overnight Thursday with additional precipitation expected through Friday afternoon, bringing 20-35 mm of rainfall to much of the Grand River watershed.
Ground conditions in the watershed remain saturated following recent weather events, increasing the rate at which runoff will affect local waterways. While no significant flooding is anticipated with this event, higher flows in rivers and streams will increase the risk of flooding in low-lying areas typically prone to spring flooding.
River flows will remain higher than normal in the coming week, elevating the safety risk around waterways throughout the watershed.
The low-level bridge on Three Bridges Road in St. Jacobs was closed on Friday morning due to the increased river flows expected with this event.
The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around all local waterways. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses.
This message will remain in effect until Monday, April 29, 2019. Updated flood messages will be issued if necessary as conditions change.
