Deadline day to run in municipal election

Anyone wishing to run in the Oct. 24 municipal election has until 2 p.m. today to register

Friday is the final day to register if you plan on running for mayor, councillor or school board trustee in the Oct. 24 municipal election.

The deadline to file is 2 p.m.

As of Friday morning, Guelph had four people registered to run for mayor and 37 registered to run for councillor. By ward: Ward 1 (6); Ward 2 (9); Ward 3 (8); Ward 4 (5); Ward 5 (6); Ward 6 (3).

Four current city councillors are not running again – Mike Salisbury (Ward 2), Bob Bell (Ward 1), June Hofland (Ward 3) and James Gordon (Ward 2). Ward 4 councillor Christine Billings has not stated her intentions but had not registered as of Friday morning.

A total of 20 individuals have signed up to run for the various school board positions.
