The Dolime quarry lands are another step closer to being brought into the City of Guelph’s boundary with a county committee approval and support for a requested Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO).

The 230-acre piece of land to the west of the Hanlon Expressway is currently part of the Township of Guelph/Eramosa.

A report to the County of Wellington’s administration, finance and human resources committee (AF&HR) says this move enables the City of Guelph to have more control over water resources and end decades of gravel extraction.

Additionally, this would expedite a proposed redevelopment of the lands.

“The owners of the quarry wish to redevelop the land for residential purposes and will require urban services not currently provided by Guelph/Eramosa,” the report states.

The County of Wellington will be holding a public meeting on the matter prior to a regular council meeting on June 24 and Guelph/Eramosa will be considering the annexation and MZO at their next meeting on June 21.

At Tuesday’s AF&HR meeting, the recommendation to authorize the boundary adjustment agreement and support Guelph’s MZO proposal was unanimously passed without much discussion beyond committee chair and Guelph/Eramosa mayor Chris White calling it a “good news story.”
