NEWS RELEASE

WELLINGTON CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

The Wellington Catholic District School Board trustees recently approved draft school year calendars for the 2016-2017 school year for elementary and secondary schools.

The draft calendars will now be submitted to the Ministry of Education for final approval.

Each winter/spring, district school boards are required to establish a school year calendar for the next school year in accordance with Regulation 304 “School Year Calendar”.

This regulation sets the beginning and end dates for the school year, stipulates school holidays, prescribes the minimum number of instructional days (187), the maximum number of professional activity days (7), and examination days (10).

Examination days are included in the total number of instructional days.

The proposed calendars meet all of the requirements under Ontario Regulation 304 and were reviewed by stakeholders, including representatives from all bargaining units, principals, human resources, board staff and parents.

Students will start the school year on September 6, 2016. The last day of school will be June 29, 2017 for elementary students and June 28, 2017 for secondary.

Due to where Christmas falls next year, a modified calendar is being proposed whereby students will be in class until December 23, 2016 and return after the Christmas holidays on Monday, January 9, 2017.

March Break will be from March 13 to 17, 2017. The Upper Grand District School Board will be submitting a similar calendar to the Ministry for approval.

The draft calendars are posted on the board website.
