A Guelph man was arrested Friday, nearly six weeks after a vehicle took off on police attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

Guelph police attempted to stop a pickup truck just after midnight April 19, however the driver accelerated away at a very high rate of speed and officers did not pursue it in the interest of public safety.

Approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers located the same truck in a parking lot on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue West. The truck was blocked in and officers recognized the driver as the same male who had been behind the wheel in April.

He was arrested for dangerous driving. A search incident to arrest revealed suspected crystal methamphetamine and crack cocaine packaged in a manner consistent with trafficking as well as a quantity of cash.

A 44-year-old Guelph man is charged with dangerous driving and two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purposes of trafficking. He will appear in a Guelph court July 12, 2022.
