CITY OF GUELPH – On March 17, 2016 at approximately 1:33 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 2007 Hyundai for travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 6 near Woodlawn Road in the City of Guelph.

While speaking with the female driver and police detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. 

A Roadside Screening Device (ASD) test was conducted which resulted in a fail.

The female was arrested and taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

The vehicle’s speed was locked on radar at 135 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone.

31-year-old Tonya Watt of Elora has been charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

She is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on April 1, 2016 to answer to the charges.
