eMERGE’s webinar for International Women’s Day next week aims to introduce and encourage women to use electric vehicles.

eMerge said in a news release that with 70 per cent of EVs purchased by men, it appears to be a man’s world when buying the vehicle. The webinar, Women's EV Night, is designed to help 'normalize' the idea of new and used EV ownership for women and is part of a series of events to help fight climate change.

"We know that more women tend to be early 'environmental adopters' than men. That doesn't appear to be the case when it comes to EVs." said Aleena Singh, board member at eMERGE in a press release.

The event is bringing together women experts CEO of Plug’nDrive Cara Chairman, and two Guelph EV owners Mary Cameron and Beverley Fretz, who can share their local EV experiences.

"The data shows us that most EV drivers are men." says Cara Clairman, executive director of Plug'n Drive a non-profit committed to accelerating the adoption of EVs.

"Events like the eMERGE Women's EV Night are so important to help women participate fully in the EV revolution! " she continued.

Over 8,000 new vehicles are sold in Guelph every year, but few are electric.

"I'm one of those women that wants - and needs - to learn more about EVs," said Singh.

"Every EV that's purchased (instead of a gas or diesel vehicle) reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to four tonnes per year. That's massive."

The event takes place on March 8 at 7p.m. Tickets can be purchased here
