EQAO results see Grade 6 students better in reading and writing

Mixed results in overall math average for Grade 3 and Grade 9 students

EQAO results are in and students in both local school boards are doing better in reading and writing, at the Grade 6 level, than the provincial average.

Grade 6 students in the UGDSB have an 87.1 per cent average in reading, and 85.9 per cent average in writing. 

WCDSB Grade 6 students have an 86 per cent average in reading, and 97 per cent in writing.

The provincial average is 84.9 per cent in reading and 87 per cent in writing. 

In Grade 3, UGDSB students have a 73.3 per cent average in reading, 0.2 per cent higher than the provincial average. In writing, students have a 64.1 per cent average, 0.8 per cent lower than the provincial average. 

WCDSB Grade 3 students have a 76 per cent average in reading and 63 per cent in writing.

In Grade 6 in the UGDSB, students are doing better in math than the provincial average of 47.2 per cent, UGDSB is at 48 per cent.

WCDSB Grade 6 students have a 51 per cent average in math.

Grade 3 UGDSB students have a 56.1 per cent average in math, 2.9 per cent lower than the provincial average. Whereas, Grade 3 students at WCDSB topped the public board and the province with a 66 per cent average in math.

Grade 9 math students at UGDSB had a 56.4 per cent average in math and 83.1 per cent in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). 

WCDSB Grade 9 students had a 58 per cent average in math and 82 per cent in the OSSLT.

The provincial average for Grade 9 math was 52.3 per cent and 82.1 per cent in the OSSLT.
