Erin’s Rob Armstrong is set for gold as he prepares to fight for Team Canada’s hockey team against Team USA at the final on Saturday.
The 25-year-old sledge hockey player competes with Team Canada at the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Games as one of their prominent forwards.
Team Canada defeated South Korea 11-0 at the semifinals on Friday evening EST, getting them a spot in the final against Team USA. Canada outshot South Korea 43-3.
At the 2018 Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, Armstrong helped Team Canada win silver. He also helped Team Canada earn silver medals at the 2019 and 2021 Para ice hockey world championships, as well as a gold medal at the 2017 world championship.
In 2021, he missed all the knockout stage matches at the worlds after sustaining an injury in the final group match.
Armstrong has been a big hockey fan from a young age. At the age of six, a virus attacked his spine and limited his mobility but that didn’t let him down.
He initially enjoyed being a goaltender when he played road hockey with his friends, and eventually started playing Para ice hockey in 2006 with the Mississauga Cruisers.
Armstrong attended Erin District High School, and after graduation, went on to Carleton University as a law student.
The gold medal game is set for Saturday, Mar. 12 at 11 p.m. EST
