A former Guelph high school teacher who pleaded guilty to four sex-related charges against current and former students earlier this year has applied for parole just four months into his sentence.

Brian Hathway had his parole hearing earlier this week.

GuelphToday was denied permission to attend the hearing by the Ontario Parole Board and was told that it would have to file a Freedom of Information request to try and find out the result of the hearing.

Hathway pleaded guilty in January and received a one-year prison sentence and three years probation when he was sentenced on March 8.

A former teacher at College Heights, Hathway previously pleaded guilty to a total of four sex-related charges against three individuals: two former students and a 17-year-old who was still a student at the time.

At his trial the mother of one of his victims called him a "monster."

Hathway pleaded guilty to sexual assault and sexual exploitation against the teen, and sexual assault and communicating with a person for the purpose of obtaining sexual services involving two former students.

Court heard he was given a light sentence as part of an agreement between the Crown attorney and defence council.

That agreement was deemed necessary by the Crown because a conviction at trial would have been unlikely due to the fact the main victim is struggling to the point he would have been unable to testify in court.
