A one-day expo that seeks to normalize the conversation about death is coming to the Evergreen Seniors Centre this fall.

Exploring Death and Beyond: Holistic Expo and Learning Fair was put together by medium Heather Warren at Blossoming Heart Guidance with Heather and founder of Embrace Network, Shanan Cunnington. It aims to remove the stigma and taboo around the subject by demonstrating the beauty and spiritual aspects of death through mediums, death doulas, energy healers, and more.

“People tend to leave talking about their wishes for their end of life journey until the very end,” says Cunnington.

She says dealing with our own mortality and the every-day minutiae of death is something we still refuse to address, even though it is presented to us all the time in movies, tv shows, the news, and our communities.

The expo will take place on Sept on Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local service providers who intend on providing support, information and resources to those who are on their end-of-life journey and the people who care for them will also be present.

The expo hopes that by exhibiting alternative day-to-day aspects of death and dying such as eco-burials, end-of-life legal health planning, social supports, and nurses, it will open people’s minds and hearts to begin having conversations around the subject.

“We want to help people normalize the conversations and process of death & grief so they feel supported in our community. We ultimately want people to come to peace with death.”

Early bird tickets are $8 by Sept. 15. Regular prices are $10-$15 at the door.
