CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) was in a brief hold and secure in the afternoon due an outside incident allegedly involving a person with a weapon near the school.

At approximately 2:25 p.m. today, UGDSB spokesperson Heather Loney confirmed via email the high school was in a hold and secure because of a situation taking place near the school.

A hold and secure means exterior doors are locked but school continues as usual inside.

“The hold and secure was called in response to an altercation near CWDHS involving an individual who is not a CWDHS student,” Loney said via email. “There are reports that this individual was carrying a weapon.”

Loney said school administrators confirmed students were inside the school and accounted for.

Police notified the school to lift the hold and secure around 2:50 p.m. after informing school administrators the person had been apprehended.

Students were dismissed at their regular time.
