Fixed Gear Brewing Co. is expanding its brand by opening a wood oven pizza 'canteen' on Edinburgh Road.

The craft beer brewer, which opened at its Alma Street location in 2018 and added a second location on Elmira Road 14 months ago, is launching Fixed Gear Canteen on Oct. 23.

The Canteen will be located In The Junction multi-business building at 5 Edinburgh Rd. S. in what was formerly the location for Abe Erb Brewing Co.

“It’s hard to ignore the challenges of opening a new location during a pandemic,” said Fixed Gear founder and president Mike Oosterveld in a press release.

“Thankfully we’ve received an enormous amount of local support, which has bolstered our confidence and driven us to create a casual dining experience that is authentic to our brand and the Guelph community.”

The Canteen will feature a socially distanced indoor seating area and a heated outdoor patio. A take-out menu will also be available.

Abe Erb Brewing Co. moved into the location in August of last year. They closed that location when the pandemic hit in March and never reopened. They did not return requests for comment. Their sign is down off the building and a notice on the door says the location has closed.

The other Abe Erb locations in Kitchener and Ayr remain open.
