NEWS RELEASE
WELLINGTON-DUFFERIN-GUELPH PUBLIC HEALTH

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is indicating that there has been a laboratory-confirmed case of influenza B in Guelph. This is the first evidence that the flu is circulating in the community. If you haven’t already got your flu shot, Public Health urges you to get it soon.

The flu shot is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older including those who are considered at high risk of complications from the flu.

This includes children under 5, adults over 65, residents of nursing homes or long-term care facilities and those with underlying medical conditions. The flu vaccine is strongly recommended for anyone who could transmit the flu to individuals who are at high risk of complications.

It’s easier than ever to get the flu shot. It’s available at many pharmacies, from your family doctor from Public Health. Visit www.wdgpublichealth.ca for more information about flu clinics.

Adults aged 65 and older may be interested in a flu vaccine that is specially formatted for older adults. Unlike the standard flu vaccine which is free, Fluzone High-Dose for this older age group costs $80.

It is available by appointment from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (call 1-800-265-7293). Fluzone High-Dose is also available from your physician by prescription.
