Former Guelph Storm goaltender Michael Giugovaz has been charged with sexual assault following an incident in Peterborough last month.

Peterborough Police reported Monday morning that in late July the victim, a woman in her late teens, was at George Street establishment with friends.

"During the evening it was reported that the victim was sexually assaulted by an unknown male. Through the investigation the male was identified. On August 12, 2016 the accused attended the Peterborough Police station where he was placed under arrest," said the press release.

As a result of the investigation Michael Giugovaz, 21, of Brampton, is charged with sexual assault.

Giugovaz was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 8.
