The Cocksure Lads Movie, written and directed by Murray Foster of Great Big Sea, will be screened at The Bookshelf Cinema on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. The screening will be followed by a special Q&A with Murray Foster and Mike Ford.

The Cocksure Lads Movie is a feature-length musical comedy about an English band on the cusp of stardom who arrive in Toronto for their first-ever North American tour. Ten minutes after arriving, they get into a fight over royalties and break up. Over the course of a day that showcases many of Toronto’s unique neighbourhoods, they learn what it means to be a band – but it remains to be seen if they can patch things up before their big show.

The film stars Lyndon Ogbourne, best known as bad boy Nathan Wylde on the UK soap opera Emmerdale. He’s joined by fellow Brit Adam McNab and Torontonians Luke Marty and Edward Hillier. In addition to a strong supporting cast of up-and-coming Canadian talent, the film includes cameos by musicians Kendel Carson, Walk Off The Earth and Alan Doyle (Great Big Sea).

The Cocksure Lads Movie grew out of dozens of Britpop songs that musician Murray Foster and his musical cohort Mike Ford have written over the past two decades.

"Mike and I both love 60s Britpop and thought it was time to bring back this type of music," says Foster. "The Cocksure Lads Movie is a natural extension of the songs we wrote. It’s a believable, likeable story that has wide-ranging appeal."

The film was successfully pitched on CBC's Dragons' Den and has been well received at festivals worldwide including the Whistler Film Festival and the Shanghai International Film Festival. It was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the 2015 Niagara Film Festival and recently won Best Musical at the 2016 WorldFest in Houston, TX.

Foster and Ford are currently in Guelph performing the two-man play Sons of '17 at the John McCrae House, featuring popular songs from WWI.
