A Guelph-based home builder is getting some national attention.
Terra View Homes has been named the 2022 ENERGY STAR Canada Builder of the Year, for its efforts in building new homes and keeping energy efficiency top of mind.
The award is in the small builder category, given out by Natural Resources Canada.
It is Terra View Homes' second time winning the award in the last three years.
Natural Resources Canada credited Terra View Homes' work in 2021, which included a green marketing campaign through social media, working with elementary schools and the University of Guelph to promote ENERGY STAR, and attaining net zero, net zero ready or ENERGY STAR certifications for all the homes they built.
“Enhancing energy efficiency is key to working towards our ambitious climate goals, while creating sustainable jobs for cleaner growth and a greener, more energy-efficient future. This year’s ENERGY STAR Canada Award recipients are ambassadors of energy efficiency and examples of the value of investing in smart energy choices.” said federal Natural Resources minister Jonathan Wilkinson in a news release.
Terra View Homes said they built 34 homes in the last two years through the ENERGY STAR for New Homes (ESNH) program. Their overall compliment of net zero and net zero ready homes stands at 71 since moving to ESNH-exclusive home building in 2006.
“This award demonstrates not only our commitment as a builder to the ENERGY STAR for New Homes program and sustainable home development, but also our passion towards helping our homeowners use less energy, diminish their carbon footprints and contribute directly to the fight against climate change,” Andrew Lambden, founder and CEO of Terra View Homes added.
“It is an honour to be recognized for our commitment to environmentally conscious and energy efficient building across the country.”
More are on the way too, including the Hart Village neighbourhood and NiMa Trails development, both near Edinburgh Road South and Gordon Street in south Guelph.
Hart Village will have 117 homes, along with condos and townhouses when everything is built.
NiMa is expected to have a mix of single and semi-detached homes, along with condominiums.
