Guelph FC edged Unionville Milliken SC 1-0 in League1 Ontario action at Alumni Stadium on Saturday.
It was a crucial game for both teams as a win for the visiting team would have leapfrogged Unionville over Guelph in the League1 Ontario standings and pushed the home team out of a playoff spot.
With the win, Guelph is now sitting in fourth place in the league standings as we approach the half-way mark in the season.
The lone goal coming in the 68th minute, compliments of Tomasz Skublak who buried his own rebound. However, the score certainly did not reflect the numerous quality scoring chances Guelph United had against Unionville as Guelph still seems snake-bitten when it comes to finding the back of the net.
On Guelph’s back end, goalkeeper Svyatik Artemenko gave a great performance and earned his first clean sheet since his return for his efforts.
Guelph United will play two home games this week, hosting Sigma FC on Tuesday and Pickering FC on Friday at U of G’s Alumni Stadium.
