NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH FOOD BANK
*************************
The harsh reality of lack of affordable accommodations with the cost of living above the national average in Guelph means the need for food emergency access is rising along with it.

Charitable organizations are struggling to keep up with the demand and rely heavily on the generosity of the citizens of Guelph and beyond to help us keep our shelves stocked, thus providing much needed food to our neighbours in need.

This week, Guelph Food Bank (GFB) launched its annual Spring Food Drive with 20,000 homes receiving a full colour flyer with information about how they can help with this campaign.

This current GFB food drive runs March 21 to April 14. The necessary donations will help us distribute food through our own main location hub as well as the other eight locations we help support throughout the city, with more locations planned to help get emergency food access closer to where those in need live.

To participate in the Spring Food Drive, you can scan the QR code on the flyer1 delivered directly to your home and/or go to your local grocery store and pick up a paper grocery bag from our GFB branded displays with a list of our most needed items and generous sponsors listed.

These stands also have our donation QR code for direct access to our donation page. Didn’t get one of our special flyers?

You can still donate online at guelphfoodbank.ca and click on our blue ‘donate’ button or visit our ‘How you can help’ page.

If you don’t have access to our donation bag, you can still contribute by purchasing nonperishables and donating them at your local grocery store, dropping them off at your local Fire Hall, drop off at our 100 Crimea St. location Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Any amount is greatly appreciated and every dollar donated allows us to provide over two full meals to clients who use our services.

For more information about most needed items and how you can donate, please visit our website at GuelphFoodBank.ca

This GFB Spring Food Drive is made possible with the generosity of our local sponsors.

As the organization continues to expand the reach of its Community Food Hub to help people access the food they need closer to where they live by reducing access barriers for those who have difficulty getting to the Guelph Food Bank directly, the overall amount of food being distributed is increasing.

This makes the current food drive that much more important to ensure GFB’s ability to continue the same level of support to partners across the board and in turn those they service. With Food Security a growing problem in our community and across Canada, please consider donating non-perishable goods and/or monetary donations during our March 21-April 14 Guelph Food Bank Spring Food Drive to help us continue supporting our neighbours in need.
