Guelph Police charge two with impaired driving Friday

One man was also charged with having an insecure load

A Breslau man and a Guelph man were arrested for drunk driving in separate incidents on Friday.

Guelph Police report that on Friday at 7:48 p.m. a concerned citizen contacted the police about a possible impaired driver in a truck in the area of Laird Road and Hanlon Expressway.

A short time later, police located the truck on Southgate Drive with insecure lumber sliding around the bed of the truck and a piece of lumber extending approximately four feet past the end of the truck bed.

Upon approaching the vehicle police observed that the windshield was heavily shattered. Police spoke with the adult male driver, he ultimately failed an approved screening device roadside breath test and was arrested.

Further investigation revealed that the male was in possession of an open container of liquor.

Once back at the Guelph Police Service station, the male refused to provide further breath samples.

A 50-year-old Breslau man has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- refusal to comply with demand
- No clear view to front
- Insecure load
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court on Feb. 26.

Also on Friday, around 8:30 p.m, police observed an adult male driving 115km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph. A traffic stop was initiated near Stone Road West.

Police spoke with the adult male driver and he was subsequently arrested.

A 61-year-old Guelph man has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration

His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court Nov. 27.
