A Guelph police officer will appear at a public hearing Wednesday to answer a charge of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act.

Guelph Police refused to name the officer in advance of the hearing, identifying them only as an 18-year-veteran of the force.

It is likely Cst. Corey McArthur, an 18-year-veteran of the force who has been facing pending professional discipline.

Last September McArthur was given a conditional discharge after pleading guilty to assaulting a teenager who was handcuffed to a hospital bed at Guelph General Hospital in 2016.

At the time of sentencing his lawyer told media McArthur would likely be facing a professional disciplinary hearing at some point.

The incident was caught on hospital security camera and it was the hospital that reported the incident to police.

McArthur was placed on probation for three years and ordered to do 240 hours of community service.

McArthur, who has been off duty since 2016, will not have a criminal record as long as he stays out of trouble for the duration of his probation.

Following the 2016 assault that landed him in court, McArthur was diagnosed with PTSD resulting from the on-duty death of a fellow officer.

The public hearing takes place Wednesday, July 3, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Holiday Inn on Scottsdale Drive.
