Guelph Public Library now has 55,446 active cardholders

Annual report shows 2.2 million items were checked out in 2019

The Guelph Public Library saw over 109,000 ebooks signed out during the pandemic.

The GPL's annual report included a COVID-19 update, showing that from March 16 to June 30 there were 109,206 ebooks checked out of the library. Another 14,763 items were checked out physically using curbside pickup during the month of June.

A total of 715 new library cards were issued while from March 16 to June 30 and 100,851 virtual resources were used in that time period.

The 2019 annual report shows there are now 55,446 active library cardholders in Guelph, an increase of 25 per cent over 2018.

Other statistics of note in the report:

- there were a total of 2,195,160 items checked out by patrons in 2019

- 1.34 million visits to the library

- 6,936 new cardholders

- the number one checked-out device was Chromebook laptops

- online resources were accessed a total of 226,758, an increase of 21 per cent over 2018

- 140,836 questions were answered

- program attendance was 44,063
