A Guelph man faces an assault charge after another player was left bloodied during a recreational hockey game, Guelph police report.

During a game the evening of March 5, one player was struck several times in the back of the head and pulled to the ice, sustaining injuries to his teeth and gums which required dentistry work, police said. Once on the ice he was repeatedly punched in the head and face.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, a 31-year-old man was arrested Monday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He will appear in a Guelph court May 19.
