Guelph Storm defenceman invited to Team Canada selection camp

Guelph Storm defenceman Michael Buchinger will get the chance to wear the Maple Leaf this Christmas.

Buchinger is one of 30 players chosen to try out for Team Canada. The selection camp invitees were announced Tuesday.

He is one of 10 defencemen who will be competing for a spot on the roster.

The 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship takes place Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The selection camp runs Dec. 10 to Dec. 13 in Oakville and includes a pair of exhibition games against a Canadian university all-star team.

The 19-year-old Markham native, a third round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues, has 23 points in 26 games with the Storm this season. Over his three-year OHL career he has 140 points in 161 games.

Canada's first game at the World Juniors is Boxing Day against Finland.
