The Guelph Storm has traded veteran defenceman Noah Carroll to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
In exchange for Carroll, 19, the Storm receives centre Liam Hawel, 17.
Guelph also sends a third round pick (originally Saginaw’s in 2017), a second round pick (2020) and a conditional third round pick (2018) to the Soo.
Coming the other way with Hawel is a third round pick (2021).
Hawel, a 6-foot5, 185-pount Arnprior native, is in his second year with the Greyhounds, who chose him in the first round of the 2015 OHL Priority Draft, 22nd overall.
He has six goals and eight assists this season in 38 games. Last season he had four goals and 11 assists in 65 games.
In his draft year he had 18 goals and 31 assists in 25 games with the Ottawa Valley Titans minor midgets.
Hawel is eligible for this year’s National Hockey League draft.
He is expected to be in the Storm lineup Friday night when they host the Windsor Spitfires.
Carroll has paid 169 games over three seasons with the Storm. He had two goals and 11 assists in 32 games this year.
The Strathroy native was a sixth round draft pick of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes last summer.
Earlier this season Carroll was sent home for a week for disciplinary reasons.
