Guelph Storm defenceman Ryan Merkley was selected 21st overall in the first round of Friday's National Hockey League entry draft by the San Jose Sharks.
In its final draft rankings, NHL Central Scouting had Merkley ranked 45th among North American skaters.
Merkley had 67 points in 63 games last season.
Storm forward Cam Hillis is expected to be drafted when the rest of the draft is completed on Saturday. Hillis was ranked 67th amongst North American skaters by Central Scouting.
