Guelph will receive $2,647,075 in funding for its municipal transit system from the province.

The funding will be delivered to municipalities through Phase 4 of the Safe Restart Agreement.

The agreement is intended to address transit system costs and revenue losses related to the pandemic between Feb. 1 and the end of this year.

“This joint funding is imperative to ensure Guelph can continue to recover its ridership and get commuters where they need to go safely. The provincial and federal government’s have been there for our communities through the toughest years of the pandemic, and this additional funding is another demonstration of their support for Guelph and public transit,” said Mayor Cam Guthrie, in a news release.

“This additional funding will help deliver safe and reliable public transit for local communities both now and into the future,” said Premier Doug Ford, in a press release.

The funding will help provide reliable transportation for everyone whether they are going to school, work, or to the grocery store, said Caroline Mulroney, minister of transportation, in the release.

Guelph is one of 107 municipalities who will receive the funding. The funding is provided by the Ontario government in partnership with the federal government.
