Guelph's first Bike To Work Day to happen May 28

Ride your bike, meet some new friends, have some free coffee and snacks

The city will be holding its first ever official Bike To Work Day on May 28.

The event is to launch Bike Month in June.

People living and working in Guelph are encouraged to bike to work on May 28. Participants are invited to drop by City Hall between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for free coffee, snacks and a chance to win prizes.

People who plan on biking to work May 28 are encouraged to register their ride at bikemonth.ca/guelph.

Registration is free and individuals will be automatically entered to win one of three prize packs of a $500 Mountain Equipment Coop gift card and $500 Via Rail voucher. This contest is run by the regional Bike Month organizers.

For those living outside the community and working in Guelph, and anyone interested in meeting others and cycling to the event with a group, five Meet, Greet and Ride locations are being set up.

Participants can meet at any of the following locations and cycle to City Hall together. Group rides leave at 7:15 a.m.

North end

  • GCAT Scenic River Ride – Riverside Park, Marilyn Drive at the baseball diamond parking lot
  • Paramount Sports Ride – Paramount Sports, 30 Arrow Road

East end

  • Active Guelph Ride – Franchetto Park, 24 Franchetto Blvd

South end

  • Tour de Guelph Ride –Westminister Square, 31 Farley Drive

West end

  • Love Your Bike Ride – West End Community Recreation Centre, 21 Imperial Road South
