Guelph's library board receives provincial award for collaboration, innovation

The Guelph Public Library Board is the 2020 recipient of the prestigious Ontario Library Association’s Joyce Cunningham Award. This award is presented to a high-performance Public Library Board that has demonstrated a superior level of collaboration and innovation to produce outstanding results.

“The Guelph Public Library Board is a cohesive group of local citizens who are passionate and highly committed to ensuring the library is a robust, thriving community resource for all. They share a common belief that public libraries play an essential role in allowing people to explore their world, enrich their lives and connect with their community,” commented Steven Kraft, Guelph Public Library CEO. “Under the strong leadership of the Library Board, year two of the library’s strategic plan has brought us closer to achieving our vision of creating a thriving community together.”

Board Chair, Scott Butler is thrilled and proud to accept this award on behalf of the extraordinary Guelph Public Library Board team members which include Lisa Maslove (Past Chair), Vivian Webb (Vice Chair), Randalin Ellery (Vice Chair), Aaron Blair, Councillor James Gordon, Getu Hailu, Anne MacKay, Gertrude Robinson, Katie Saunders and Danny Williamson.

“We’re all dedicated to helping the library respond to the needs of residents at every branch and, of course, with the new Central Library.  It’s great to see our hard work recognized at the provincial level,” said Maslove, Past Board Chair.

The Joyce Cunningham Award was presented by the Ontario Library Association (OLA) at the Public Library Award Gala on Thursday Jan. 30, 2020 held in conjunction with the OLA’s annual Super Conference in Toronto. Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, Lisa MacLeod was present as well.

“2020 will be another exciting year for the Guelph Public Library with the official launch of the Makerspace at Westminster Square Branch and the reveal of the final design for the Central Library. We hope that residents will continue to ‘Explore, Connect and Thrive’ at all of our locations and virtually,” said Maslove.
